Tortuguero, Day 1

Tortuguero Viper and Me

Hamming it up with a viper.

Eyelash Viper

An eyelash viper blending in to its environment

You never know what you'll find in the jungle. A grouping of some sort of fungus on the side of a tree caught my eye. I was staring at the fungus for a while, then looked around the tree at some growths. It was a bit of a shock to see a pair of eyes staring back at me. I was staring at the fungi to which this viper had latched itself for several seconds before I actually noticed the snake. I'd seen the golden morph of the eyelash viper on my previous trip to Tortuguero. That one stood out. This brown and green one was so well-camouflaged, I really needed to start paying more attention.
